| Bio: | I work for one of them fairly famous internets companies what don't start with a G as a software development engineer. I wrote technical specs for a while, which are usually considered the best around; I think that's why I write non-fiction so well. Even, for some reason, narrative non-fiction. I could probably start submitting stuff and it would get into magazines; but I save it up for my serious blog, http://www.spontaneousderivation.com/ . One day I might be a professional blogger. Yes, I treat blogging as a serious route to a possible online non-fiction career. I would love to break into fiction, although I know it's far more difficult than non-fiction. I am told by folks who have no interest in boosting my ego that I write well for an amateur. My weakest area is plot, although planning a book out seems to clear that up---given that I'm flexible enough to deal with change as the book develops. My favorite fiction to write used to be quite emo and deep, with Great Significance and Characters with Deep Angst and Important Themes wandering around the plotscape, snapping up characters and causality. These days I'm currently writing a little web serial that plays upon the Sherlock Holmes mythology with two crazy musicians in place of the Great Detective and his Boswell. My "Boswell" uses the word "f*ck" like Discworld's Librarian uses the word "ook". It's amazing, the shades of meaning that can result. In conjunction, I'm working on, veery veery slowly, a story that is basically crazy action with many things blowing up and a protagonist with a large arsenal dedicated to blowing things up. It's big, it's long, and it probably can only be submitted as (very) numerous short stories, because the company I work for will kill me for trying to publish a novel. I'd love a literary agent, but that may never be in the cards for me. Um, that's me. Hi there. | |||||
